Vegreville Transportation Services Society
The Vegreville Transportation Services Society (VTSS) is a community-based, charitable organization dedicated to providing accessible and affordable transportation for residents of Vegreville and surrounding areas. Established in 2004, VTSS began with a taxi voucher program and expanded in 2005 to include a Handivan service for individuals with mobility challenges.
Services Provided:
- Taxi Voucher Program: VTSS provides financial assistance through the Taxi Voucher Program, offering eligible clients a booklet of 10 taxi vouchers every six weeks to help cover transportation costs.
- Wheelchair-Accessible Van (Handivan): The Handivan Program provides essential wheelchair-accessible transportation for community members who need to travel to regional medical facilities for specialist care. VTSS is committed to ensuring safe and reliable access to these vital services.
- Eligibility: Transportation subsidies are available to eligible individuals through an application process. Applicants may qualify if they are seniors aged 65 and over, individuals with a temporary or permanent disability that limits their ability to use standard transportation, or persons facing financial hardship that affects their access to local transportation. Supporting documentation may be required as part of the application.
- Affordable Rates: cost for out of town travel is $0.80/km with no charge for wait times.
VTSS is funded through community partnerships, fundraising, and volunteer support. Its mission is to enhance mobility and independence for residents, ensuring they can access essential services and participate fully in community life.
