STRYCHNINE DISTRIBUTION UPDATE:

Effective Tuesday, July 7, 2026, strychnine will be available in limited quantities.

To ensure fair and equitable distribution, the Agricultural Service Board has approved a first-come, first-served process for eligible agricultural producers. Strychnine will only be available to producers who:

  • Are registered on the County Strychnine List.
  • Have successfully completed the required approved training.
  • Have provided proof of eligibility.

Not yet registered?

If you have completed the required training but are not currently on the County Strychnine List, please contact the County at 780-632-3715 to be added before attempting to purchase.

Proof of Eligibility

At the time of purchase, producers must provide the following:

  • Proof of legal land ownership (Certificate of Title or Property Tax Notice).
  • A copy of a lease agreement granting the lessee exclusive farming rights.
  • An Alberta Farm Fuel Benefit Number.
  • Agricultural insurance documentation.

Required Documentation

Before purchasing, producers must submit a completed and signed 2026 Strychnine Purchase Information and Treatment Plan form.

Purchase Limits

To allow as many eligible producers as possible access to the product, purchases will initially be limited to 6 bottles per producer.

Additional quantities may become available as new shipments are received.

Pricing

The purchase price is $21.00 per 250 mL bottle.

Each bottle will treat approximately 1 kg of grain, which is sufficient to treat about one acre.

If possible, producers are encouraged to pay by cheque to avoid having to visit the main administration building.

Empty Bottle Returns

Empty strychnine bottles must be returned to the County before additional purchases can be made.

Sales Schedule

Strychnine sales will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays only, between 8:00 am -12:00 pm & 1:00-4:30 pm.

Please call 780-632-3715 before visiting to ensure the Agricultural Fieldman is available. By law, the Agricultural Fieldman is the only person authorized to distribute strychnine.
