County of Minburn Municipal Development Plan Update
The County of Minburn is currently undertaking a full review and update of the Municipal Development Plan (MDP).
An MDP is a high-level plan that outlines community goals, future land use, and matters affecting community development. The content of the plan outlines an overarching framework to guide future development and achieve the community’s vision over the next 30 years.
The previous MDP was approved in 2009 and has undergone amendments in 2016 and 2021. Over the past decade, the County direction and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) have evolved from primarily wanting to protect farmland and agricultural life to promoting residential growth and acreage subdivisions. A new and modernized MDP is needed to keep up with Minburn’s evolving communities and to simplify land use planning and meet ever changing development demands.
Community feedback is an essential component for this project. We want to listen to your feedback and hear your ideas on the vision for Minburn County.
Project Update
Background
The MDP is the policy framework that governs land use planning within the County. The current MDP was approved in 2009 and no longer reflects the current development vision and goals of the community. The process of updating the MDP that the County of Minburn is embarking on includes multiple opportunities for members of the public to learn about the changes and provide their input on the MDP before it is approved by Council.
Next Steps
The project has just been initiated and the County and consultant Green Space Alliance (GSA). The team at GSA is beginning the initial analysis and background research in collaboration with County staff.
Timeline

Background
The new MDP will set the course toward realizing a healthy, prosperous, and resilient future. The process of developing a new MDP will call on the community to rise to the challenge of transforming the community for future generations.
First and foremost, it will reflect the community’s vision for the County of Minburn and will strategically address the community’s immediate needs. It will also create policies to guide future decision-making in the County, providing Council and the community with an overarching framework to guide future development to achieve the community’s vision over the next 30 years.
Upcoming Consultation Events
Public Open House is scheduled on June 21 at the Innisfree & District Recreation Center between 4-7pm.
