News Release: Big Recognition For A Bold Idea

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

County of Minburn, Alberta - April 16, 2026

The County of Minburn is celebrating a major achievement after receiving two prestigious awards at the 2026 Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) Conference, recognizing the County’s leadership and innovation in rural economic development.

The County of Minburn was awarded “Economic Development Renewal Project” (Small Community/Region) for its groundbreaking “Buy a Lot for a Loonie” Program. The initiative also received the Alex Metcalfe award for “Best in Show”, the top honour in its category.

The “Buy a Lot for a Loonie” Program is a creative approach designed to attract new residents, investment, and growth by lowering traditional barriers to entry for development. By offering lots for just one dollar, the County has demonstrated how small and rural communities can think differently to spark renewal and opportunity.

Winning two awards in one week is a significant accomplishment and reflects the growing impact of the Program across the region. The recognition at the provincial level highlights the County of Minburn as a leader in forward‑thinking economic development and reinforces the positive momentum being created locally.

Thank you to County of Minburn Council for supporting this initiative as we work to attract more residents into our community.
